Focus Editorial Services pattern 4

About

I am a highly skilled editor and proofreader, with 20 years’ experience in the editing business.

Originally an archaeologist by profession, I developed my writing skills first during my time in academia and then broadened my editorial experience as part of my work in professional archaeology – writing, editing and preparing reports for clients and for publication as books or journal papers.

After this, I spent over a decade working as in-house editor for Text Matters, an information design consultancy, where I worked on a vast range of subjects and types of material. It was there that I also developed an interest and expertise in clear communication, and worked on Plain English projects for various public-facing bodies, including the UK Environment Agency, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Ministry of Justice.

I set up my own business in 2011 and use my broad editorial experience to help a wide range of clients in business and academia all over the world.

I am a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). The CIEP is the UK’s membership organisation for editorial freelancers, working to promote high standards and uphold the professional status of editors and proofreaders.
